Swoops (Shape)

I know you'll have to make a shape in order to accomplish this "swoop", as I refer to it. But how would I go about getting that particular shape? Is it a pre-shape? Drawn? Pen tool?

The easiest way to do that is use the Ellipical Marquee Tool then make a oval type shape, fill it with whatever color you want then hold ALT and make another oval type shape over it which will cut out that marquee selection and you will have a "swoop" shape. That method is way easier than using the pen tool.
