View Full Version : Transparency Question
I am working on a flier for the store I'm going to work in soon. there is a high possiblity that they'll use a colored paper to print them on but I dont even know the papers color yet other than it being yellow.
to be on the safe side I'm using vector masks and planning to send the printer a big ass transparent tif so he'd suffer enforcing another lady designer for the job.
today I heard they liked the draft so I'll be finalizing it soon.
I'll make sure to get the paper it's going to be printed but is there anything I should know or be careful about?
the flier is simple, with full colored images of products and a low opacity logo. I actually have no idea how to flatten that lots of layers as a single transparent image :help:
thanks.

What you mean about transparent image buddy??
Are you meaning that you'll be able to spot the paper colour through the images?
if so, just make your file b/w

I don't think that's possible Cone, as he stated the image contains full color images.
What program are you doing the layout in Boozer? And how is it going to be printed?

But full coloured on coloured paper :S
If it's only toned paper, then it could work, then if it was me i would turn to "ICC profiles"
but i personally don't know much about those...
I just woke up and the answer just popped in my head after reading your questions about my question.
by transparent I meant real transparent like a gif for web, no background color. now if I remember correctly print machines neglect white background so if I make the layout on white whatever paper paper they use the background color will be the color of that paper.
like you write smtg in Word, put in a yellow paper to the printer, click print and thats it :)
I feel like and idiot when it comes to printing but I see I was extra dumb at night when I typed my first post hehe :D

Well duh
Remember that the colour of the paper will also mix in with your 4 coloured images Koray, so whatever was white on them will be the colour of the paper.
Imagine you use yellow paper, and you print a blue shape. The shape will turn green :(
damn I didnt know that.
is there a way to avoid that?...if not we gotta change the plans :(
damn

It all depends man
How much colour does the paper has. Is it really coloured or is it just a light tone, know what i mean.
If it's really coloured, you're pretty much screwed. Only thing is to print white on the areas you're having your pictures, gonna pretty expensive with a fifth colour like that.
If it's only a light tone, you can take all your images and take out some of that colour. Imagine if the paper is light yellow, you will then remove some yellow from your image. Thats gonna be prety hard and you'll have to do alot of test prints before you get it right.
I guess you're just fucked in general :D
I finished it. made it on white, went to Kinkos to get a test print. chose a ery light pastel yellow paper with texture and let it go. result is real nice. better than I expected. they dig it too so no problem.
its not a classy nice design but I did what they told me thats why I aint showcasing it hehe :snake:
now working on a menu. I'll make that one a good and skillful one though :)
