Is there an easy way to set up squares for comic strip?
i'd just use the rectangle select tool, select my square and on a new layer, fill with white and set a 1 or 2 pixel black stroke to it, then duplicate the layer as many times as you need if you want them to be the same size or do the same for differing squares before flattening it

what about bubbles? :D
the same method, but using the elliptical selection, or round the edges of a rectangle before stroking, depending on what shape you want, the old blur/levels trick comes in very handy for rounding edges of odd shaped bubbles too, here's an action that simplifies the process, if you're doing a load of them, automation is the way to go - http://www.aovs02.dsl.pipex.com/roundedges.jpg
