first off i didnt know where to post this so mods, sorry about making your job harder :P

ok i want to know what you peops use the most? Adobe GoLive or Macromedia Dreamweaver? and WHY you prefer one over he other

I prefer GoLive...i think its a bit harder to learn but i somehow feel comfortable working with it

One big reason(to me its a big reason) that i prefer GoLive is coz you can preview withing GoLive itself instead of previewing in a web browser...it just annoys me when I hit F12 and another window pops up with the preview so thats about all I can think of right now...let me know

I have Macrmedia Studio MX so I just use Dreamweaver but only for the color it puts on the code. It makes it easier to read. Ive never really used them for anything other then coding so i wouldnt really know which one has better features.

yeah i guess thats an advantage....i didnt think about that since i never code in HTML coz though i love coding i H-A-T-E any coding thats tag based.......unless its PHP coz its very dynamic

If I have to use one I'd prefer to use GoLive. Yeah it is a bit harder to learn but it's easier once you know what you're doing. And Inever use the wysiwyg I usually just keep it in the code screen and do it that way anyways

1st Page (http://www.evrsoft.com/1stpage).

I code straight html, it gives me much more control than Dreamweaver ever gave me. Plus it's nice to know what's going on in the code, so if you need to edit it quickly, you dont have to search around for it. =)

...and it doesn't bloat the code =)

Go Live writes dirty and annoying code. If you design on a wysiwyg approach, Go Live can be user friendly. My advice would be to use dreamweaver and for heavens sake learn code! It ain't rocket science.

I swear by Dreamweaver, plus it's an industry standard so a whole bunch of people can't all be wrong. Can they? :P

If the code gets too complex to handcode it, Dreamweaver, but other than that, NotePad all the way! :D

hehe mitch, i'm a HARDCORE 1stpage user too :P

these sort of html editors are the best, they give the flexibility of hand coding, most still have preview features (out of proggie sorry) and the coloring of code comes in quite handy.

hehe, i'm not putting down dreamweaver, i use it before golive simply because i have it, and it comes in extremely useful. then tweak any little bits outside it.

I prefer Dreamweaver too, and I'll tell you why.

Making websites for (cheap) customers for a living requires you to work extreamly fast but yet, provide a top notch product. I dont know about you guys, but it takes me x2 as long to hand code than to use Dreamweaver for the job.

So, what im saying is: Dreamweaver is a fantastic tool to make websites with and as little as I have used GoLive, I can only say what I've been told. "Dreamweaver is better".
So get of your high horses with that notepad thingy because no customer will pay you for the amount of time you use while handcoding the lot. Although, DW nor GL cant help you out in every situation, therefor knowing a bit html/javascript/asp/php is necessary.

And finally, no offence to the ppl who prefer to handcode. You have my respect :)

dreamweaver all the way
b-man has got the reason straight on

thats true, for clients indeed a quick turnaround time is necessary and dreamweaver is great for that. hand code gives you more personalised interaction, so its great for personal projects, and your little babies. i never use dreamweaver to code php etc, so imay as well get used to coding by hand as well. although wysiwyg editors cram on the shit, they are useful.

I can appreciate B-man's rationale and Eyelfixit makes a good point too.....but i guess its just a matter of taste that i like GoLive over DW...one thing that motivates me to want to learn some HTML is tables so that I can have more control over them coz tables can just be a bytch sometimes :S

i learned GoLive and i can't complain.

for that what i'm working in my agency... GoLive is perfect for TeamWorking.. which dreamweaver never would be ....

so maybe dreamweaver is better for yourself, but as it is sure a useful tool for me in my work

When I mentioned "code" earlier, I meant HTML. I wasn't trying to say you didn't know any code. I didn't want to come off as "that guy".

One thing Go-Live has going are the grids. It makes it super easy to line up tables, images etc. But, if you try to open up a html document in dreamweaver that was created in go-live you get a big fucking mess. (go figure)

Please explain, and why wouldn't dreamweaver be able to do it. I am just playing the devils advocate here and trying to see if you can prove your point. And plus, the info might be interesting.

just because golive has including an teamwork network website creation, so everybody can see in team the actual html working status and edit it etc...

I use Go Live cause it's quick and simple and the inbrowser preview feature doesn't hurt either. But I agree you shouldn't just rely on wysiwyg editors. I've been doing coding since 98 so I have a good grasp of it. So the only reason I use GoLive is cause it's quick.

yeah it would be helpful to know some HTML too.....sometimes tables can just be a bytch when they dont line up after resizing them :S
