Hi, I have created a table of contents for a book I've designed using InDesign CS and now I want to "connect" chapters titles with page numbers using dots.

I've followed instructions from "The InDesign CS Bible" to create the table of contents but I don't see how to use connecting dots.

InDesign allows me to put any character between chapter names and page numbers, but every chapter name has a different number of letters so the number of dots has to change according to the space available.

Any idea on how to do this?

Thank you very much.

Locate your tabs pallet. Select a text frame with the type tool. Type a period in the Leader field (in the tabs pallet). On the right hand side you should have 4 different arrows. Click on the 3rd one. Now click anywhere just above the ruler. You will see that the X field now has a number. That’s how long your tab leader will be. You can type a different value in the X field if you are not happy with what you have. Now type a word and press tab. Your leaders will show up and they will go as far as you set your X value in the Tabs palette. Now type another word. You will see that the second word is right justified. To have a different type of justification you need to click on any of the other arrows.:mr:
