View Full Version : Looking for Original Adobe Photoshop 2
:help: I hope this question is in the right place. I used to have Adobe Photoshop 2 (not CS, not Elements; the original) that had some nice things in it I liked. It was simple to use and I liked it best for quick touch-ups on my photos. I don't have the CD anymore and can't find it anywhere. I can't find it at the Adobe site or Amazon or anywhere. It's so old, I would think a person could download it for free. Would anyone know where I can find it?

holy crap!
wasn't 2, like, the original release? Adobe bought another software company that made an image correcting app, and renamed it "Photoshop" - then released the original "whatever-it-was-called" app as v1, and consecutively launched "Photoshop 2.0" - - - this would have been back in 1990 or so...
dang, I'm getting old......
anyway, it's probably a collector's item now - expect to pay top dollar :gm:
I was close on my timeline:

would you be able to run it on your OS. I think you will have to look for windows 3.1 or mac os 5 I think?
I have Windows XP. I've done some more research and found what I'm looking for. You were right, I found it on EBay. Why didn't I look there? I also looked at some other forums and if I have any problems I can download a couple of fixes (or patches). Hopefully I won't have any problems. My old comuter was Windows 98 and it worked fine. I look forward to working with it again.
To ALL of your replies.........Thank you. This has been the friendliest forum I've been to.

install it under xp, right click > properties > Run in 98 mode
or something like that.
I will remember that hint when I get it and install it. Thanks again.

just really, really curious - -
why would you want to go back to v2.0 in the first place?
what did it have that is easier/simpler/whatever than later versions?
[this isn't a flame at all - I'm just really curious!]
From what I've read, PhotoBrush from Mediachance.com looks like a PS2-era program - if you can't find 2, check out PhotoBrush.

You will all have to excuse me - all this time I have been looking for the wrong thing. (?) I had Adobe Photodeluxe 2. I don't know the difference between Photoshop and Photodeluxe, but when I looked in my old computer it said deluxe. Maybe they're the same? Maybe not? Well, go ahead and yell at me if they're different. I deserve it. Anyway, I found Photodeluxe at Ebay and bid a whole $2.50 for it. As for my reasons: The program seems to fix the layers, brightness, etc. with the push of one button. There's also a tool that blends much easier and better. The blur tool on Photoshop 6 isn't exactly what I like. I've played with graphics for a long time, but I'm still a newbie. There are a lot of times I will start with 2 and then transfer to 6 to finish. Call me wierd.
Back again.................
I got Photodeluxe 2.0 on ebay. Got it running on XP with a little work. I am a happy person!:) Since I'm new here and just might (with my inexperience) do something I think is cool, where do I post it? Have a great day.

Go to Start, Control Panel, System, Advanced, under performance click Settings, Advanced and under Virtual Memory click change. Click the No Paging File box/circle and then click set. You may have to restart to make the changes take effect. In order to load my Photoshop 6 I have to go back and unclick/uncheck the No Paging File box. I click Custom Size and then fill in 3000 and 4000 for the initial size and maximum size respectively (my personal preferences--I was trying to do something a long time ago and that was a quick fix--I can't even remember why now). Hope this works.

Do you mean visual effects, there is no virtual memeory box ????
No. Under "Performance" click settings. You are now in the "Performance Options" window. There should be 3 tabs: "Visual Effects", "Advanced" and "Data Execution Prevention". Click "Advanced". There are 3 sections, one of which is "Virtual Memory". Click "Change" in the "Virtual Memory" section. Now You're in the "Virtual Memory" window. Click the "no paging file" circle and then click "set". Go back and try again with these instructions. Once again, you may have to reboot. I know how frustrating it can be. Good Luck.
To frankiegirl and Son,
I am following your debate with bated breath as it is of great interest to me-----another guy who wishes to transfer Photodeluxe 2 from my Windows 95 to Windows XP. As a matter of interest HP have suggested a download patch to make Windows XP compatible----I think, but there at 83yerars I am bloomin` old. Regards, John

Dancer you are the greatest girl !!! Awesome! It worked. It's like an old friend come home. I just like to use something familiar then use the "fixed" picture, the way I like it, in PSP 8.
Thanks so much for going out of your way for me
I will offer sacrifice to computer gods in your honor! LOL
Thanks again and have a great summer. Happy photos fran

No debate jay, just trying to get the old program to run in xp. I have memory up the butt and it did not see it.
But Son gave me the detailed instrucitons and I got it running now. Just like old times! HaHa
You are welcome! It took me about 2 weeks research on the net to find out how to do it, so if I can save anyone any help it's worth it. I get so much help from forums, it's not funny. My God's name is Jesus, though----but I better not get into that here. Have a great summer to you, too.
