in response to this thread (http://www.graphic-forums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2010) i am going to post some arhitectural designs in an effort to broaden the minds of our forum a bit. take it as you will.

i was raised as an architect, and untill my 3rd year of college i was going to become one (that is a LONG story.) so i have a deep seated love of architectural design. I find it to be a fascinating and expansive subject, and i still get tingles when i see some projects i have seen 100 times before. I am not going to get into any rhetoric or any theory, only to say i have a certain kind of style i prefer for various reasons. (you can read about deconstructivism (http://www.artandculture.com/arts/movement?movementId=132) if you are interested) I find the process and the qualities of architecture are soemthing i value to this day, and a lot of my graphic art & fine art is very architectural (in theory & process if not in final form)

So with that, here is a random smattering of projects that i find interresting. I ask you all to disucss and comment and add your own images to this thread as well.

I love arcitecture, its a unique form of art...Shecky, by any chance have you heard of a town called Prospect? They have some wild houses in there (I can post pics if you want...)

Also, have you seen any of Gaudi's work, it's breathtaking.

Mitch, you are talking about Prospect New Town (http://www.prospectnewtown.com) in Colorado. its an interesting interpretation of zoning laws into a fairly unique development.

The MIT building is brand spanking new actually, its a dormitory. the inside has some crazy spaces too. ill try and find some pix

another amazing body of work is from Morphosis Architects (http://www.morphosis.net/morph.html), they are possibly my favorite firm (if i had to choose) and they are one of the few architects to actually have an interesting website.

Yeah, Prospect is tacked on to my town, Longmont, CO, its about 15 minutes northwest of Boulder, and 45 minutes north of Denver...I love driving through there. They are using a format called "New Urbanism" pretty cool if you ask me =)

'new urbanism' is actually one of the super hot architectural commodities on the market right now. this sort of "town in a bottle" idea is being developed all across the country at a rapid pace. Prospect is one of the better interpretations of it, but you will see a lot more developments like this, especially in open sparsely populated areas where they can build a highway to an airport/seaport/train/whatever and pop in this "town" out of nowhere.

urban planning is generaly not where my interest lies personally, i am more into individual projects personally.

the Louvre is indeed very architecturally different from its grandiose surroundings, but they both combine to make one of the great attractions in paris.

You ever been inside it leech?

I got my tickets free off a nice italian bloke, it is stunning how they have the transition between modern and traditional.

Here's a pic of the new music centre being built on the Tyne, innovative design, fits nicely with the new bridge

forgot to comment on your's shecky, New Mariinsky Theatre, Russia and House X appeal to me more than the others, i tend to like curvature and form rather than the disjointed approach, feel they have to sit into their surroundings and compliment the area (it is after all, a working building not a piece of art), i like innovation but i think some architects tend to get a little carried away and upset the public :)

i like the New Mariinsky Theatre very much...i seems to make me think how izzit possible to do something like tt...im currently doing a diploma in architecture....im juz uncertain about the future...about whether im able to survive or even be an architect...

Thread seems to be comprised of more discussion than photography appreciation.

And guess who may be going to Paris this summer :D, the Louvre will definitely be on my list of things to check out again
