I am having some trouble using a transparent background Targa file in CS2.

In this case, i am using Ulead 3d cool to create an image file, specifically a tga file with the 'transparent background' option checked in the save dialog window. However, when i place, or open this file in CS2, the background is not transparent, but is the color the background was in 3d cool when i saved the file.

The odd thing is though that if i open this file in illustrator, the background is in fact transparent. I am able to save this file as PSD and reopen in CS2, which does solve the problem, but it is an extra step that i dont think is necessary and i want the least data loss possible. Also, exporting from 3d cool as a gif (with transparent background) will open in CS2 as it should, but obviously this results in much data loss.

Ultimately i just want a way to use the tga i have from 3d cool straight to CS2 with the transparent background. Any help appreciated thanks.

Check your settings when opening the targa file in Photoshop.
If you can maintain the transparency in Illustrator then you can most likely do the same in Photoshop you just need to fiddle with the TGA settings.
