Im accustomed to justadding .25 to my canvas size when i design something for print but i have a feel thats not all to it caue the print told me im only giving him 1/8 of a bleed and he needs a 1/4 also to make the bleed the same color as the background .. can anyone give a hand with any useful info

simply just make your canvas larger, after you finished designing, before merging the layers.

and then fill it with the background colour. whatever size the orinter requires.

You should inform him how much bigger you made the canvas, so there's misunderstanding...

for example a documnet that is originally 3x4 should be 3.25x4.25 thats a 1/4 correct?

You shoudn't have to make your canvas size bigger to accomodate bleed. Your printer should adjust the bleed to where he needs it in the print dialogue. If you create a canvas size of 8-1/2 x 11 just pull your picture boxes a .25 outside of the trim area. Now if your printer needs 1/4 bleed you may have to move your art to accomodate this bleed size by moving or scaling your art a little to fit.

I work for a printing company and we will adjust the bleed depending on the job. What software are you working in?

im working in photoshop...if you could walk me through what your talking about or a tutorial that would be appreciated
