View Full Version : Airbrushing faces
Anyone got a tutorial on airbrushing a face and making it looks smooth?

Hello InkPad,
I don't use a airbrush for many faces unless I have fine detail work to do after I do the following.
I dup the main layer to I have a back up copy for comparison with the new version. With a varying sized mask brush, I trace the outline of the face's hairline and just leave out the lips, eyes and mouth. The masking can be quick and dirty or very detailed depending on the quality you need. After I have my mask I use it on the layer copy and apply a slight guassian blur until the skin looks as smooth as I want it to be.
In the linked expample, notice the picture is split down the middle. The left side is the "smooth" side with some additional levels work and I made her eye blue as well. On the right side you'll notice minor poc marks etc. that were present on the left side as well as slight bagging under her eyes that are now less obvious. If I had the original .PSD file of this I'd gladly send it to you, but I discarded. Sorry.

Note:
Tracing the hairline can be tedious at times, but I like the over all effect this gives in the end product.
I hope this helps!

J-Attack,
If you bothered to use the link, you'd see a color example of what I've outline. The B&W pic was just a airbrush example. Next time, before poo pooing my post, maybe it would be good to read it first. Or, better yet, provide you're own, better example. (You're right, it's not a "God" example:doh:.

Here's my facial "smoothing"....it doesn't use airbrushing, it uses the history brush and an adjustment layer...works pretty well.

I learnt the technique in one of the tut's here:

R0yksopp,
That's a good technique and excellent example. I'll have to try it. Thanks for the link to the tutorial too.
