Okay, we recently got a new computer. It is running XP at the moment but that is not what I care about right now. I am really interested in modding my old Windows 98 desktop. Here are a few things I would like to do, any help is appreciated.

1. Make all of the desktop button just text, no icons.
2. Mod the whole start menu to the smallest thing possible.
3. Anything else I can get my hands on.

I searched around here and found Tclock2, which is working great. Any idea or comments on how to do some of these things? Thanks guys.

just text icons is simple, you just create a transparent icon and use that, it hink DM said there was one in the system folder already.

I would suggest installing TweakUI, that has options for removing the help, documents, logon stuff from your start menu. Its in the powertoys folder on the windows 98 cd.

oh, and can i ask, why ?

1. Use Tclock2 for modding the text of icons so that they are small. Now, to get the no-icon trick. Use shell32.dll as a source for the icons (shell32 contains most of the windows icons), and scroll right in the box, with all the icons. Somewhere there are 4 icons wich don't show up, select one of those, and you have an invisible icon :)

Yeh, the 'UI' stands for 'user interface'. so you 'tweak' the 'user interface'. :)

1. Doing this because I want to use the W98 comp for some heavier stuff, but nothing too big so I wanna make it sleek.
2. Thanks DM, I hope that .dll file isnt too hard to find.

Whoa, I found it and it works great! Thanks alot everybody, and DM.

If you guys wanna ignore Leech(its fun doing that isnt it heh heh), why dont you just create your own transparent icon and use that?

Im sure download.com has at least a few icon editors. Just open the icon that has the annoying arrow and use the color picker to sample the transparent bit and paint over the shortcut arrow. You had better save it under a different name though :)......or just use Linux!! :gatling:
